OK, I got Parallels working again, but now am having trouble re-establishing a vpn connection to the server at the office. I am using the same connection data, yet it won't complete the registration. Parallels build 5608 with tools installed inside of Windows. What am I doing wrong?

Notes: Imac 2.4 ghz with Leopard 10.5.3, Windows XP sp2, 3 gig ram, 320 HD

Hard to guess, without information about previous and current configurations

Understand, John....Thanks. I can get online through Parallels just fine, but when calling up the server it says "registering the computer on the network" and after a minute or two, it just times out. I use the same access configuration which worked within Parallels before installing build 5608, so something must be amiss here? I can access it through my Windows laptop just fine, using the same access config. Wonder where I now go with this?

    What is VM network set?
Are you using Bridged Ethernet or Shared networking?

I don't know anything about a "VM network set". Should I? I am using a mobile wireless router with both computers...the Windows XP laptop accesses the server just fine and with the same access info, the iMac/Parallels computer just won't connect. Not sure what I can do from here. I also can access the internet with this iMac, so I know the router can't be the issue. Nor can the server at the office.

    Hi,

are you sure you haven't changed something else? new router, new firmware on the router (British Telecom is doing so, without letting the user know. just for example).

Did you just updated Parallels, or did you reinstalled Parallels? and which version was your previous version?

It could also be interesting what kind of VPN software you are using. The build in VPN client of windows, a special client (e.g. Cisco) or what.

Nothing has changed 'cept for Parallels. I had the original 3.0, build 5600? I believe. Then I nuked it and installed build 5604 and then took it back to 5600 when 5604 had its flaws. Then I removed the last version and installed build 5608 and somewhere in there my troubles began.

I had the vpn connection working under the original Parallels setup, but no no luck. Same thing when trying to access the Windows client vpn under the Mac side...have never been able to make that work. With my Windows laptop, I still can access the office server through the vpn connection, so it would seem the server side/vpn is not the problem.

Same problem with cisco VPN and version 5608

I have XP installed on parallels. Was managing to access my corporate network via cisco VPN (Shimo) through the mac with shared networking. since upgrading to 5608, i can't get access to the internet or the corporate network. i noticed that i can access the internet if i plug an ethernet cable or don't use the VPN but not the corporate network (Which is an issue since i use outlook).

Here is what i get if i do and ifconfig on terminal:
    UNKNOWN-10-76-57-32:~ pcornet$ ifconfig -a

    IP config on windows

I can't paste what i get on windows if i run ipconfig but i can say the following:
    - under windows IP i get: host name something that starts with my company name
    - under ethernet adapter local area connection, connection specific dns suffix: nothing, desscription: parallels etc, physical address: 00-1C-42, etc., Dhcp enabled: yes, autoconfiguration enabled: yes, autoconfiguration ip address: 169.254.250.179 (i suspect that may be wrong), subnet mask 255.255.0.0 default gateway: nothing. I also can't ping anything (i tried www.google.com, the ip of the host mac, etc).
