Hello, I'm a web developer and I'd like to run Internet Explorer under Mac OS X so I downloaded the latest free Virtual PC (.vhd) images from Microsoft and converted it with Parallels Transporter 3. After the conversion was done I tried to run the image, but it gave me a black screen and froze. I had to stop the virtual image. Please can you help me? Is there a specific method for converting this specific image file from Microsoft (considering that it is preactivated)
Why didn't you try just to install Windows 2008, or Windows Vista, Windows 2003 using evaluations iso from MIcrosoft?
Well. I need IE 6. If you go to this link : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=21eabb90-958f-4b64-b5f1-73d0a413c8ef&DisplayLang=en the you will se that IE6 is only available bundled with Windows XP which would be perfect, but after conversion I simply cannot run the virtual machine. It freezes.
Try this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb430831.aspx Windows 2003 R2 trial IE6 I will check that VPC,
Yes but this is a 30 day trial. The good thing about the Windows XP VPC build is that they refresh it everytime. Currently it active until September 2008.
I'm trying to achieve the same thing as feketegy but getting a different problem. I'm using Parallels 4.0.3844 on my Mac and have a Windows Vista Home Basic virtual machine set up; I would like to set up some XP machines to test IE6 and 7. I tried to use Virtual PC 2007 in Vista, but I was told my processor wasn't the right kind. I also found out that I need a Business or Ultimate copy of Vista to use it. That was out. So I tried using Parallels Transporter, since others said that worked for VHD files. I chose Express > Virtual Machine > Virtual Disk and pointed to an IE6 on XP VHD file that I downloaded from Microsoft. The next option was whether to make the disk a bootable disk or a data disk. I guess the one I want is bootable disk; but when I chose it, I was expected to insert an XP installation disc, which I don't have, and that I didn't need for the numerous times I used Virtual PC 2007 on my work computer. I think I read somewhere that this was due to Microsoft wanting to stop people from using its disk images outside of Virtual PC but I don't know if thats right. So I backed up and chose "data disk". I now have my HDD file, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure what to do with it. Transporter said I can mount it to a Parallels virtual machine and use its data. I don't suppose that's of any use for me if I'm trying to run IE6, that won't run on Vista, right? Would anyone mind shedding some light on how to run the Microsoft VHDs on Parallels, or if it is indeed possible, without simply having to buy another copy of Windows.
