I cannot get my Windows2000 applications to print in anything other than a scaled down portrait image across the middle of a landscape page (the top and bottom of my print out being at the long sides of the paper).

I had been having this problem with my trial version of Parallels Desktop 3 but I felt sure it could be fixed so I went out and bought the product. Still no joy.

I have an HP Photosmart C4380 connected to an iMAC (OS X 10.5.3) which I have tried both wirelessly and direct usb. I can run MAC Text Edit and MS Notepad with the same test document (typed numbers 1 to 50 down the page) and Text Edit prints OK but Notepad prints the list as though it has placed a scaled down version of my portrait page in the middle of a landscape page.

What am I doing wrong? Parallels documentation states I should only have a driver for the HP Color Lazer Jet 8500 PS in my Windows side (which I have). In desperation I tried loading my native C4380 driver but it made no difference so I have removed it.

It was suggested that it will only work properly with USB connection and not wireless but I have tried both with the same result.

Is it possible to set up a default page orientation for a printer on the MAC the same as you can on Windows printers and if so where do you do it?

I am new to the MAC and I am sure it is something I haven't done correctly but it's driving me nuts and I am starting to worry that I have not spent money wisely

I tried setting the default orientation but it made no difference - both portrait and landscape still print at 90degrees to the paper long edges

(I have HP Printer Utility 3.3.1)

Using: Mac OS X 10.5, Parallels Desktop 3.0 (Build 5608) for Mac, HP Device Manager v 1.4.7 with a HP Photosmart C6180.

    I'm having a similar problem.

Anything I print from the Windows XP Pro version 2003 SP2 (now with SP3 installed), prints using a HP driver for a HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS on LPT:1 (via USB) as landscape.

I've changed/checked printer preferences in both Mac OS X and Windows XP, but since I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), the Guest OS will only print documents in landscape.

    Any ideas?

Do you have HP tollbox installed in Mac OS, if yes, try to tweak configuration there

    Thanks for the fast reply...

I have the HP Device Manager v 1.4.7 installed with a bunch of Photosmart utilities, along with a Device Utilities folder that includes a HP Setup Utility. All this is the latest HP software for Mac OS X 10.5 since the printer would not work without it after I updated to v10.5 Leopard.

I searched the HP website thoroughly, and I believe what I have installed, is the same as the HP Toolbox you are referring to. I've tried adjusting the Printer Setup in the Windows Guest OS and in the Mac/Parallels OS using the HP software. Everything I print through the Mac OS prints fine, portrait or landscape.

I still only print landscape in the Windows Guest OS no matter what I've tried in any of the settings. I figure I have a bug...

    One more step to clarify,
Please check what settings are set when you are trying to print from Windows side

    Very strange...

Yes, I've always checked the Page Setup on the Windows guest OS, and they were set to portrait when required.

The strange thing is that printing is now working. When I need portrait and set it in Windows OS, it prints portrait - and landscape prints landscape. In addition, when I needed multiple copies, it now prints the number of copies I need. The problem I'm experiencing is with QuickBooks 2008, so I don't know if some automatic upgrade downloaded fixed the problem in Windows XP, QuickBooks or even Mac OS X 10.5.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
