I just installed a Time Capsule and attached a USB printer. I can print fine from OS X but cannot figure out how to print from XP under Parallels. When I try to install a network printer it cannot find it by name or IP address (I used the IP address of the Time Capsule).

    Hi,

You can try the following: in Mac open terminal and issue
    arp -a

this command will show list of IPs from which connection to your Mac are opened.
One of them should be your printer.
You should try to add printer as per http://kb.parallels.com/en/4886 trying each of these ips one by one.

    Hope this helps.

    Printing to time capsule

My problem seems to be more that Time Capsule "forgets" it has a printer. I followed your suggestion about the arp -a command in Terminal. It gave, at first, incomplete results. I then used Airport to check the Time Capsule and found it didn't have a printer! I tried restarting the Time Capsule but it made no difference. However when I started setting up time Capsule again, the printer suddenly reappeared. After it had reappeared, arp -a gave a complete result, and my previous installation of the printer in XP under Parallels worked too.

The problem seems to be in Time Capsule. We also have periodic problems with printing via the Time Capsule from our notebook. I think it is the same problem of a "forgetful" time capsule.

The two results from using arp -a in Terminal are below:

Last login: Thu Jun 26 08:54:39 on console
    Macintosh:~ Ian$ arp -a
    ? (10.0.1.1) at 0:1f:f3:c5:70:ac on en0 [ethernet]

Did you install Bonjour in XP?

    Bonjour

Yes, I did. That is how I installed the printer there. But it still only worked when the Time Capsule admitted to having a printer connected...
