I use parallels solely for accessing Outlook webmail on IE. It has much more functionality than in firefox or safari. I switched from Fusion to Parallels so I could set my default apps for docs from the XP VM to be Mac versions. If I save an attachment from Outlook webmail, Smartselect and setting the defaults works great. However, I can't seem to find a setting that will force email attachments to open directly in Word for Mac for example from Outlook webmail. Is there a way to do this? I have saved .docs to my windows desktop and set the always open with to Windows for Mac but it doesn't work for directly accessing attachments. Many thanks, Rich
Hi, To do that please do the following: 1. Load and launch your Windows VM. 2. In the menu Application of Parallels Desktop application select Populate menu item in the Shared Mac Applications group. 3. Create (or just point to) any .doc file on the Windows disk inside VM. 4. Right-click on that file to open contextual menu. 5. Select Open With... -> Choose Program... menu item. Open With dialog appears. 6. Find and select Microsoft Word (Mac) application from the list. 7. Turn "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" option ON. 8. Click OK. The file will be opened with Microsoft Word for Mac application in Mac. Close the Microsoft Word for Mac. 9. Now, you will be able open attachments in Mac clicking on the attachments inside Outlook. still doesn't work When I clicked on populate, I got the hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing. There is not a list of shared mac apps like I can see for the shared windows apps above. As before, I can double-click on the file on the desktop and yes it will launch Word 2004. When I double click the attachment in the email though, it opens another browser window in IE6 in the VM and uses MS Word to open the document. If I right click the attachment and select open, it does the same thing. If I right click a .doc on the desktop and select open with and then highlight Word for Mac, the "always use this app" box is not checked.
Set Default App to Mac, but files revert to opening Windows I don't know how to deal with this, but I do think it's a bug. I go in and set to open the office attachments using the Mac app, and it forgets every time I leave parallels and then return.
