Ok I've searched for a while and I still am just not getting something I just bought Parallels Desktop for Mac v3 and wanted to install Mandriva 2008.1 in a vm. Installation went without a hitch save 1, when I booted I had no X. I did some digging and found one thing to try was installing the tools .... from where???? my dmg contained no scripts that I could see, just pdfs and the application. I'm assuming I'm missing something obvious I just can't think of it. Is there any base config somewhere for configuring X to work with Linux in a vm through parallels?? I'll keep digging but I have to assume this has been asked or talked about lots I just can't seem to find a workable solution yet :/ ... as in what are the resources offered via the VM to the host OS. In proc the device is listed as compatible unknown VGA so I fugured the tools would help identify the device to the kernel possibly? ... I just can't find the tools *shrug*
Parallels tools problems Hi, I have just installed Mandriva 2008 KDE and it works fine. I just did it as I would on a normal partition of an HD of any computer, but within the VM, from the iso image on my Macbook HD. Now, I have some trouble with Prallels tools. I did install without any problems. However : - Connexion to network through Airport does not work, - Sharing files between my mac HD and the VM does not work, - USB mass storage : I can mount it and see the files. But the VM get frozen. I do not have any idea of how to proceed with this and welcome any help. Thanks.
I can't get tools installed. I did mount the CD and tried to install it ... I get a message stating that it found my xorg version and then it dies: Continue ? [Yes/No]: Yes Found xorg version . Installation for xorg.. not found. And then back to a prompt?? Is there soemthing else I need to install this?
As a side note I've also installed everything I can find related to base xorg installs including devel: xorg-x11 x11-xorg-server libxorg-x11-devel Still poking around
I did not install anything special on my computer (x11 on my mac os 10.4.11 but this should not have any link with the problem). Remark : I had a problem running the .run file from the CDROM mounted. This is why I copy the 3 files in the /tmp. ....try it....
I tried copying the files with no luck ... I'm not sure what it's looking for that it can't find but so far it's sucking
If we think about it, since it work fine for me, by reading again your posts, I suggest that the problem is somewhere in your Linux and not with parallel. So, did you had a look with dmesg or something to see if there are any errors from your x11 config ? Then take a look into the batch file something.run (with cat in a console) and try to find out where in the process your x11 conf may not fit its requirements. May be you will find out soething ?
Well I did a little more debugging with no resolve so I launched a ticket ... about 4 days ago. I still have not heard anything or even if the ticket has been seen. I'm going to have to see if there is a better way to get to some support ... so far this is not going well.
Any luck? If you have luck with the xOrg problem, please let me know or post it on here. I'm stuck in the exact same spot you are. Thanks, Riley
For the time being I just installed Kubuntu ;-) ... I'm going to order a little more RAM before setting up another image but with the new release I'll be trying the 2008.1 power pack release of Mandriva in Parallels. I have some usb issues I still need to iron out too (which will be a different thread if I can't nail it down lol) Either way still love the product
I'm also having a problem with Mandriva 2008. I can't get CUPS installed and consequently can't use my printer. Anyone else here with the same issue?
Fixed problem...in Mandriva you have to add the distribution sources...it comes with only update sources and consequently couldn't find the right version of CUPS. Thanks for trying to help, though.
