I am using Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5584 and Win XP on an iMAC i just purchased about 1 month ago. I am using a baseball simulation game called, Strat-o-Matic in XP. I use a Netgear wireless router to connect to my ISP. The game includes an engine whereby you can play an opponent on-line. I am unable to play a game in the virtual machine as a HOME team, but I can play as a Visitor. I have read all the manuals and documentation in addition to perusing the forum here and I am still stumped as to how to approach this problem.

I started out by attempting to connect using Shared Networking, with port forwarding (on the virtual machine). I was not successful.. i'm not sure if its possible using shared networking or perhaps I didn't have the correct ports or IP address. I do know that the baseball game uses ports 508 on a typical machine. I have used this game previously on a windows machine and used port forwarding on my router to play.

My next attempt was using Bridge Networking. I was also unsuccessful in this attempt. I tried to port forward my router to the IP address of virtual O/S which was 192.168.1.3.. this did not work. Whats interesting is that when I look at the attached devices on the netgear router from my iMAC O/S it shows that the iMAC IP is 192.168.1.9.. but the virtual machines IP does not show up. When I look at the attached devices from the virtual machine, it shows the virtual machine IP as 192.168.1.3.. but doesn't show the iMAC O/S IP. I'm at a standstill now and I really could use some assistance.

In both shared and bridge networking, I have internet access.. so it appears to be that the router is not recognizing where to go when it gets data from my opponents computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

I really could use some advice on this matter... any advice, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

I'm not sure where to find out the IP of the virtual machine, but you'd need to forward all ports to that IP.

I suspect this would be easier to do by booting into Windows as there will be no virtualization layer.

I'm sorry, but I don't follow you... what do you mean by booting into windows?

I mean using Boot Camp http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html

I was trying to do something like you, but couldn't figure out the details - I was tangled up in IP addresses and configuration settings.

Using Boot Camp means you're effectively turning your Mac into a PC (until you next reboot) and for certain games and uses that's just fine for me.
