Allright, this has already destroyed TWO virtual machines, and I want it resolved NOW. I have never had this problem in Tiger. But on my Leopard system, this has destroyed both a Boot Camp and a regular .hdd VM: files in the VM just start randomly deleting for no apparent reason. This is without my using or installing any programs the OS didn't come with in the first place. Typically it will start off with something small, like I'll notice the RSS feeds I had set up in IE7 weren't there anymore, and the RSS sidebar gadget acts like it has nothing to display. Then, files in the Documents folder might suddenly be missing. Then one day I'll start up the VM and Windows won't start because a critical driver is missing (always a different one, but always the same message). In the worst example, I had tried enabling Shared Profiles, and it began randomly deleting files in my Mac OS X user account. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?? Should I even bother to try a 3rd time or should I just demand my money back?

    Parallels build 5582
    Vista, pre-service pack
    MacBook Pro 17" Core Duo
    Mac OS X 10.5.2

it sounds like your hard drive is failing
you better run some disk utilities

or a bad connection to an external hard drive

I use neither Vista nor Mac OS 10.5.* - too new for my old machine

If that were the case, why would this only happen in Parallels guest OS's and not in OS X?
And in case you were wondering, see attached Disk Utility report:
