I had to Force Quit Parallel (3.0 on Tiger) today and now cannot restart it. "The message says "Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file .... The file is used by other application." I've shutdown and restarted -- still the same message. Anyone know how to unlock the hard disk image file?
I have read through the couple of similar threads but, unfortunately, do not see a .lock file (using Terminal) in ~/Library/Parallels/winxp . I tried several of the other techniques (like duplicating the files into another Parallels folder) and that didn't work either. Short of reinstalling everything, is there another technique to unlocking the .hdd? Any guidance is appreciated.
Do you have full access privileges to the file? Have any other computer users accessed the file? Also, have you tried doing a simple re-boot?
Yes I have full access privleges to the file and I've tried "stopping" the WinXP application, and have rebooted the Mac several times. Still no luck. I tried looking for a ".lock" files via Terminal and no luck there either.
PROBLEM SOLVED. --- AT LEAST WORK AROUND I copied my previous backup of ~/Library/Parallels/winxp/winxp.hdd back onto my system disk and everything is working again. The only drawback is that, as you would expect, I did lose a few files that I hard recently downloaded to the PC side. But that, for me, was not a bad loss. Thanks to all for your suggestions.
