We are trying to scan into a document imaging program using a Fujitsu 4120C scanner via USB, but are experiencing random scanner disconnections and Parallels shutdowns. One minute the scanner is connected and seeming to work fine, but the next it acts as though we have unplugged it.

I have already made sure that this is not a driver issue or an issue with the document imaging program interfacing with the scanner, and I have checked to make sure that the scanner is selected in the Device/USB menu. Are there any known issues with Parallels dropping USB connections like this?

We are having the same issues, with fujitsu 4120c, fujitsu 5015c, fujitsu 5120c, fujitsu 5220c, and the Panasonic kv-s2026c scanners. The 4120c model sometimes will work, very slow, crashes many times - totally unreliable. Any of the newer models will NOT work. Parallels has sent us a number of fixes to try, but nothing seems to fix the issues.

We have done much research, and it appears to be associated with high I/O, which most of these document management scanners have under USB. Note all the scanners we tested are USB2 type scanners.

We were running Fedora using VMWare and had no scannner issues. We switched to Apple MAC minis for scan stations, as the hardware is more dependable. We have just tested the latest release from VMWare for MAC, it is working great... no issues. You can import your existing Parallels VM. We are hoping that Parallels will be able to fix the issues, but if not we need to move ahead as we purchased 10 mac minis for scan station resales.
