VM reaction on connection of external hard drives

On the connection of an external hard drive to the host OS, a dialog in Parallels/the guest OS shows up asking me whether I would like to use it in the guest OS.

Is there an option that this dialog may not appear?

I looked for it and could not find it in the documentation.

I rarely want to use external hard drives in the guest OS, and on some occasion I had to notice that this Parallels dialog blocks the usuage of the external hard drive in the host OS (until it is answered with NO).

 

I share all my external hard drives with Parallels

PD >> Menu >> Devices >> Shared Folders >> add

so I have never seen that dialog

I found the option.

It now only remains to state that I tried to find the option by searching the documentation for "external" and/or "drive" and/or "hard drive", and I did not realize that it is actually determined by the USB Controller and the corresponding option in the Configuration Editior.

You decide whether this is my fault or the documentation's

Yes, it does now work as I want it to: only a particular external drive is shown/used in the VM and the said diaolog does NOT apppear on the connection of additional exernal USB drives.

What I meant with "fault" is not irrelevant. The problem turned out to be that the answer is there in the documentation, but I could not find it. Technically and logically the documentation is correctly written, but the said section cannot be found with searching for "external" and/or "drives". But if the said section would be tagged differently it could be found. My point actually would be: changing or adding tags to the said section could be helpful!
