ok... I know this has been a popular issue and I read a few discussions relevant to this issue, but I am still stuck here and not even sure this is an issue for Parallels forum but since I am at my wits end I thought I'd post this here as well. So please bear with me. I am a windows developer that I just bought a MacBook Pro and installed Parallels build 3214 with Windows XP pro on it. Things went well for a couple of weeks and then I uninstalled the blackberry software I had installed under Windows. Since then I am not able to connect the CD/DVD drive. When I connect the CD icon under Mac disappears (disconnects as expected) and the Devices/CD/DVD ROM shows as connected but windows doesn't display it. I reconfigured it from parallels (under EDIT/Virtual Machine) to no effect. Device manager under windows shows that yellow exclamation mark next to the CD/DVD devices. It reports that the drive: HL-DT-ST CDDVD GWA4080MA is not able to load its drivers. Its drivers are llisted as: c:\Windows\system32\DIVERS\cdrom.sys c:\Windows\system32\DIVERS\imapi.sys c:\Windows\system32\DIVERS\redbook.sys c:\Windows\system32\storprop.dll I am not sure if this an issue with Parallels configs (I doubt it) or Windows drivers since I dont know how Parallels communicates to the device. I tried to create and connect an image of the drive with same results. Since it was functioning well for awhile I must conclude that some corruption occurred to either windows drivers or Parallels config files but I dont any longer know how to proceed short of reinstalling Windows. By the way the drive works perfectly fine under Max OS. Any ideas out there? Much appreciated
Sorry for reposting. here is additional info that migt help... I tried the following as wee: 1. Tried to delete Win Xp and recreating it - drive is not readable 2. Trying to create new guest os - same problem 3. uninstalled Parallels (win xp image remains) - same problem At this point it seems that perhaps there is a problem with Parallels SW and the firmware of the drive. I believe I update some software (auto updates from apple, which included security update) Is it possible that I need newer Parallels drivers (I am using build 3214) and if so where can I get those?
