I recently did an archive and install of Leopard 10.5.2, due to a problem I was having that didn't involve Parallels. However, since doing that archive and install, I get the following message in a dialog box whenever I try to start Parallels: "Parallels Desktop is unable to operate properly since it cannot communicate with one of its drivers. Try to restart the application to overcome this issue. If restart doesn't help, re-install Parallels Desktop. Note that Parallels drivers require a short time to be properly started and initialized. So you may need to wait a minute before trying to launch the application." There is an OK button with this message, and it is impossible to get Parallels to start. I'm using version 3, build 5584, and it was working fine before this archive and install. Can anyone tell me what my next step should be? Thanks!
I didn't do an archive, in fact, I didn't do anything but shut down my laptop this morning and when I booted it back up after I got to my office, now I get the same message. I too am running OS X 10.5.2 and Parallels version 3 build 5584. Why would Parallels all of a sudden not be able to communicate with drivers???? I've been running it without problems for about 2 months. Will someone in the Parallels support area please let us know what is going on? Thanks in advance, M
I finally worked out my problem by reinstalling Parallels and the tools. All of my "stuff" was still there, and it's working fine now. Perhaps you could try that, if you haven't aleady?
Yeah, I did the same thing, only I didn't reinstall the tools. It seems to be behaving normally now. My question to Parallels is still: why? What caused it to malfunction and will it happen again? Is the software that unstable? Guess we'd better make sure and do lots of snapshots of our VM's and make sure Time Machine is working. :-( Thanks for the feedback, M
Hello Sandy and Markymarkster, In Sandy's case the issue might have been caused by improper Parallels installation or Parallels drivers did not get installed. The reasons for improper Parallels installation can differ - from failure of electricity to interference of any other application. Parallels drivers might not get installed because of a conflict with Mac drivers. In both situations you should repair disk permission and reinstall the drivers. In Markymarkster's case Windows work has probably been interrupted (finished improperly). You'd better shut down Windows through "Start" menu when you finish working or hide Parallels Desktop (Ctrl+H) when going to leave your Mac for long. Best regards, Xenos

Parallels will not work after using XP on Bootcamp. (1) Parallels installs and works fine until you need to boot IN XP mode. (2) When you reboot back into Mac mode, Parallels will have died and generates the same error Sandy reported: "Parallels Desktop is unable to operate properly since it cannot communicate with one of its drivers. So you may need to wait a minute before trying to launch the application." (3) I must uninstall and reinstall Parallels in order to get it to work again. The other work around that I am doing is I have a copy of Parallels saved as "Parallels Recovery" which I simply delete my current copy of Parallels and rename the recovery. This is SUCH a pain and only started happening since January. Whatever you guys did recently in the new build is bad, bad, bad. I really do not want to buy VM Fusion, but right now that is what I am being told is the only way to fix my problem. I have been told that Parallels knows about this MAJOR bug and has not fix planned... is that true?
