I'm supporting a VP where I work that is having this problem with his parallels installation (latest version) on OSX 10.5.2:

When he launches Parallels, he sees a virtual machine that was created but on which a guest OS was never installed. He sees no other virtual machine options.

He goes to file > open, clicks Choose, then can navigate to the virtual machine he uses (which does reside in the documents\parallels folder as it should).

How do I get this VM to show up in the VM list and/or make it default? I've tried deleting the ~\Library\Preferences\com.parallels.(..).plist and that didn't help.

    Thanks!

it sounds like what happens if the external HD with my VM on fails to start

To manage a VM always use the parallels >> menu >> file >> clone or delete

Once connected he should clone the VM as a back up and use that (after making a second VM clone as a back up)

Parallels "remembers" the paths it creates itself
