update: i have looked into the subject again and found this:

    https://www.macuser.de/threads/parallels-vm-sichern.198579/
"You have to backup the .pvs and the .hdd.
The pvs contains the configuration of the VM (what is set in Parallels).
And in the .hdd is the hard disk with Windows and all your programs."

I haven't found a .hdd on my mac, though.
QUESTION: is it possible that there is no such thing today?

what i did find, however, is a config.pvs, which is in the recycle bin and apparently comes from an earlier boot camp installation that i was able to start in macos via parallels desktop.

I have not found a config.pvs of a more recent date that could belong to my current windows vm.

so the QUESTION: are the contents AND the configuration in the current windows.pvm?

and then another QUESTION: where are the settings of my parallel desktop stored?

thank you for your advice, @DebasmitaM !

I have some brief questions about this:

    1. is the configuration of the vm included in this procedure?

    2. can i also backup the configuration separately (to use it on a new vm)?

    3. how do i backup the parallels desktop settings (to be able to use them on a new machine)?
