In Need of Assistance With Installation and Configuration

Discussion in 'Installation and Configuration of Parallels Desktop' started by Parallels User, Nov 26, 2018.

  1. Good Day. I am new to Parallels so I ask for a little mercy in your replies.

I installed Parallels on my Macbook pro 2018 running Mojave 10.14.1. I further installed Windows Pro 10. So far everything is working. I can open Parallels and run windows just fine.

    Problems start in two parts.
Part One: I can get wifi just fine. All works great. When I connect my J5Create JCA374 multi-port adapter, I can't get to the network. Under MacOS I can see the adapter and it gets an IP from DHCP just fine. However, I don't know how to get Windows to see this connection. I thought it would be automatic. Further, if I have the adapter connected and I open Parallels, it won't execute windows. It just hangs at the Parallels Desktop. When I disconnect the adapter, I can proceed with windows.

Part Two: while in Windows, I don't have permission to write to the downloads folder; and some other folders as well. They are read-only. I stopped sharing the folders with MacOS to see if that solved the problem but I still can't write to my folders. For some reason, they are read-only. Is this because I am using a trial version? I want to see if this product is something that I can use and should pay for but if I can't do the simplest of things, I am beginning to doubt the purchase.

So far I am loving the ease of use and the easy method in which Windows and MacOS work together with this product. I just need to resolve these two issues and my decision to purchase will be done and sealed.

Any assistance and guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

    Hi JosueR,
    1. Let us know how J5Create JCA374 multi-port adapter is connected to Mac using USB/Thunderbolt?
    2. Do you have any Antivirus on Mac with a feature called Safe Files?

  3. Hi. Thank you for the response. After much thought, I decided to return the JCA374 and upgrade to a JCD383. I was convinced that the software was not the problem and that perhaps it was the hardware. The new adapter is working perfectly. I turned off wifi and I am running 100% on the wired network from the adapter. The old adapter was using the MacOS AX8817 USB 3.0 to Gigabit interface. The new adapter automatically added a USB 10/100/1000 interface which is working like a charm. I'm very pleased right now. So I guess it was a hardware issue after all. We shall see how this performs when I connect my computer to the work network.

I do have a question on something that I noticed. I did a speed test from MacOS via the new adapter on my gigabit network and I'm getting 850+ Mbps up and 850+ Mbps down. When I run Windows on Parallels, I get 280+ Mbps up and 290+ Mbps down. I know some might say what am I griping about. Those are great numbers but it's a big difference between the two. Is there a reason why the bandwidth is less while using Parallels if it's using a shared connection with MacOS?

Again, thanks for your response. Really appreciate the time and effort.

    Josh
