My VM is currently running Windows Vista 32-bit under Parallels 10. I have just purchased Windows 10. I found guidelines for upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and 8. Can I assume that I can use the same upgrade process from Vista? I would like to avoid having to reinstall Quicken and my other Windows Apps.
Hi AndyS4, The reality is that you won't be able to upgrade to the final release of Windows 10 unless you have a Windows 7 or 8.1 license. Windows Vista licenses aren't allowed to upgrade. we would recommend you to follow this article to install Windows 10 on Parallels Desktop.
Thanks Chris, A fresh installation of Windows 10 seems pretty straightforward. My concern is what happens to my existing windows applications like Quicken which are running under the Vista VM. Will I have to reinstall all these applications under the new VM platform?
Hi AndyS4 , You have to reinstall all those Windows applications on your Windows 10 VM, because it's a clean installation of Windows 10 and not upgraded from the existing VM.
Hi Paul, I have successfully installed Windows 10 under the Parallels 10 Desktop version 10.4.0. I was also able to reinstall my Quicken and Ufile applications under the new Windows OS. All the applications run, but very slowly. Since installing the new Windows 10 OS I also notice that my Mac applications (eg. Mail, Excel and Safari) are really slow. I keep on getting the spinning beachball when I click the mouse. I have tried cleaning up my Mac using CleanMyMac 3 but performance has not improved. I am running El Capitan 10.11.4 on an iMac 3.4 GHZ Intel Core i7 with 16 GB memory. This computer ran quickly with multiple applications open before this Windows 10 upgrade. I configured the new Windows 10 VM with 1 CPU and 2048 MB memory (64 bit). I thought I successfully removed the Vista VM before I installed the new OS but in the Mac Finder I can still see ghost drive (or server) images: [C] Vista on Mac, [D] Vista on Mac, from the previous VM installation. Should these be removed, and if so how? Can you recommend some actions I can take to restore the performance of my computer. Thanks, Andy
Hi AndyS4, You can remove [C]Vista on Mac, [D]Vista on Mac and you can do it by a right click on [C] and [D] and Click 'Eject'
Hi, As you have installed Windows 10, provide RAM memory minimum with 2 GB. You may also refer to this article to tune Windows performance.
