Does the parallel 10 help in this situation and how?

My MacPro (late 2013) has only 256GB of SSD.
I wanted to install two more Operating Systems that is WIN8 and WIN 2012 R2.

ALternative is to upgrade the 256GB SSD(bigger capacity) is not only expensive but difficult to find in the market.

Is there a way the 256 GB SSD only contain the essential files(Mac/Win8/Win2012) and move
other files and folders to an external thunderbolt hard disk enclosure without
    degrading performance.

    Hello,

If I understood you well, you would like to have some part of the VM on the Mac SSD drive and other data on the external? Unfortunately this is technically impossible.
If we talk about having VMs on the external and running Mac OS on the host SDD drive, the situation will be :

There will be one more layer between Mac OS and Guest OS, so for example to send a system call to Windows the way will be always:

Mac -> external device's interface -> VM's interface. So the overall performance of this setup will be always lesser rather than having the virtual machine on the host's HDD.

    Will Parallel 10 Help

Sorry too technical for me to comprehend your comments. Maybe use non technical terms if possible.

If I transfer the .pvm file to the external hard disk will this affect the performance. If yes, does it take up a lot of overheads.

    Hello Kuanyn.

I also have a Mac (iMac in my case) with 256Gb SDD (which is really not enough!)
i then decided to install the virtual machine on an external drive (it is a thunderbolt PegasusR6 R5 drive, anyway)
So, now i have the Parallels Desktop.app in my application folder on my iMac and the .pvm (actually, i have 3 of them) are installed on the external Pegasus.
This is absolutely working terrifically well (yes, i know, i guess the Thunderbolt connection is probably a good starting point!)

I hope this is answering your question (which i hope i correctly understood)
    BRegards,
    Patrick
