My brother is running Parallels 3 - with Windows XP. He was deleting old photos and documents and somehow deleted a certain file tied to his Parallels Hard Drive. He remembers deleting the diskdescriptor.xml file. would this cause the hard drive (once viewed using - "show package contents") to go down to 4 bytes? - where would this drive have gone to? can it be recovered with recovery software? - I can see the Windows applications but when the "get info" is used on the winxp.hdd file it only shows 4 bytes.

Your brother deleted a .hds file also. Maybe some file recovery software can retrieve the file, but I doubt it, it's a big binary file, and if just one block was overwritten since then it won't be retrievable.
