Upgraded from P5 to P6 and now no network connection. Running Windows Vista Ultimate and current Parallels tools in P6 on a Intel MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. Everything worked fine in P5.

Vista shows an Ethernet adapter in the device manager and tries to install a device driver for it on start but fails. I get the following message:

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

    Intel® PRO/1000 MT Network Connection

The system cannot find the file specified

I then went to Intel's site and downloaded ProWin32.exe which is the driver for the above named device. When I try to run that to install it I get an error saying the above device is not installed and it specifically names that device.

I have tried both shared and bridged on the network settings. I have tried uninstalling the "Ethernet Controller" listed in the device manager under network adapters. It will not uninstall it. Acts like it does but when the list refreshes it is still there with an exclamation point in it. Also, my wireless adapter, Airport, is not listed at all in Vista. Both are listed in Parallels devices. Also I ran this without problem in P5.

Need help please, this is a production computer.

Hm.. Unfortunately we have not met this problem before.
As a workaround I can suggest to switch to the old mode of networking. To do so go to the menu of Parallels Desktop

"Virtual Machine" -> Configure -> Hardware -> Boot Order -> Boot flags

and add the line "devices.net.force_adapter_type=rtl" (without quotes) and then restart the VM.

Please send a problem report if this have not helped.

PS: We'd appreciate if you could find some time - about 30 minutes - and allow us to connect to your Mac and investigate the issue localy on your machine

I faced the same problem after upgrading Windows 7 Ultimate Beta.
But was able to fix the problem in a few seconds when I repaired the Network Connection in 'System Configuration'.
After I installed the Intel driver I got all my IP setttings etc back and the network connection was ok again.

I tried the repair connection earlier which also didn't work.

The suggested fix by Elric did work.

    Same Problem with Linux

Upgraded from 5 to 6. Booted a Red Hat 5 guest, no nic card present. Added the boot flag listed above and the problem went away.

In your case likely the problem is that OS have decided that new network card have appeared and created new entity for it. If I'm right, the output of ifconfig -a will show new eth1 interface without IP.

You can remove this flag and reconfigure the card inside RedHat guest. But it is not critical at all and you may safely leave it as is.
