Hello. I have problem with printing. I read the Help and:
    1) in menu VM-Configure-Hardware added Printer port
    2) in Windows Control panel added Local printer. I didn't find driver for HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS or Apple Color LW 12/660 PS (what was recommended in Help) and I installed HP Color LaserJet 2800 Series PS driver (I found this in http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=95685&highlight=printer).
    3) now I have installed HP Color LaserJet 2800 Series printer, but in VM configuration the Printer port (from the 1 point) is unavailable.

    Please help

    Hello MikhailT,
have you tried to connect printer as regular USB device letting Windows install proper driver? It is normally the easiest way. You can make sure that printer is connected to VM by unplugging it and pluggin in and selecting to attach USB device to virtual machine.

I did the same as you, and cannot print from VM unless I unplug my printer and replug it back in for use in VM...

I have similar but different problem. Printer works fine in Parallels, but when booting directly into Windows 7 in BootCamp printer does not work. Two printer devices show up in Windows device manager: the printer originally installed in Windows (Canon S900) and the same printer (Canon S900 @ iMac). If Canon S900 is set as default, print job is hung in print queue and does not print, and error icon appears in device. If Canon S900 @ iMac is set as default, software cannot find the printer. I get same result if I reboot in Parallels to disconnect the printer in the configuration setting (even if disconnected, printer still works in Parallels, but not in Windows when rebooting to BootCamp). Running troubleshooting program in Windows does not solve problem, and I cannot remove Parallels printer (Canon S900 @ iMac) device in Windows whenever I attempt it (for that matter I cannot remove the direct printer either). Incidentally, Bonjour cannot find any printers at all. Windows detects the printer devices, but the software does not. Clearly the installation of the virtual device printer is somehow overriding the Windows settings. What is the fix for this?

    Hi W. FranklinR,
when booted in Boot Camp, you can try to remove all printer devices, reconnect printer and let Windows detect printer and install appropriate driver. Try to install drivers for particular printer model. Most probably, you will need to reconfigure printers when VM is started in Parallels Desktop.

Did all that, but Parallels printer cannot be removed in Windows, even when booted in BootCamp. I eventually got it to work, but have no idea how I did it. Probably because I created a new Parellels virtual machine after I got the printers working in BootCamp. Trouble now is that because configuration of Parallels changed, I lost the Windows authorization. By the way, when Windows prompts to manually enter authorization key, where the hell do I find a key to type in? The authorization key that comes with Windows works only for the original installation in BootCamp and is rejected for this purpose. Where do I find an authorization key for the Parallels virtual machine? And if there is one, will it work every time I change the configuration of Parallels? Authorization by phone every time (spending hours on hold) is a royal pain in the neck.

    Hi W. FranklinR,
for assistance on Windows reactivation you should contact Microsoft and explain, that the same Windows isntallation is used in physical and virtual environments (Boot Camp and virtual machine).

Hi. I have a similar problem with Parallels 5 and Windows 7.

I can print to my HP Photosmart printer from Windows MS Office from within Parallels 5. However, nothing prints when I try to print from Quickbooks 2010 or from Adobe Acrobat reader. The print job gets queued but nothing ever gets printed. Any thoughts?

    Hi Sean Murphy,
how is your printer connected to your virtual machine - as a regular USB device? Please try to setup printing using Bonjour technology as per KB http://kb.parallels.com/en/4990 .

Thanks for the response. My printer is actually connected via LAN (ethernet) connection. Does the USB connection via Bonjour apply?

I can print from MS office in Windows 7. Printing from Adobe Reader or Quickbooks does not work. Is there something in the rendering engine that conflicts with Parallels?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Sean

    Hi Sean,
guess Bonjour might not work in this case. Please try to properly configure network printer in Guest Windows:

I am having an issue identical to that of Sean Murphy. While in Windows 7 through Parallels, I have successfully used Bonjour to install a network printer I have. Printing a test page works and printing through Notepad works, however when I hit print within Quickbooks 2010, nothing happens. It does not even bring up the screen that would allow me to change print settings.

I-che, I tried what was outlined in the link you just posted, and it did not work.

All I can say is I was on the phone with Parallel support for 2 hours and 45 minutes and they fixed me up real nice! Quickbook prints, Mac desktop prints, other networked printers print. Now I am going to see if I can get the UPS Zebra printer networked into this web of webs. I know it costs $ but it is worth it to me. I have a lot of $$ tied up on my Mac computer.

    Hi SerapM,
please try to remove all printers from Printers & Faxes on Windows side, switch VM to Bridged Networking and try to apply http://kb.parallels.com/4886 - this should work. If it does not, please submit support request here .
