Network Adapter

Hi,

I am using Parralels 4 in Mac Snow Leopard.
I have 2 network Adapters configured on the Virtual Machine (one Bridged, one Shared).
For some reason I don't have the Mac side of the adapter so I cannot use the Bridged adapter.

Can some please advise as to what to do?

Sorry.. it is a bit unclear.. what are the symptoms?

 

Unable to go online fro PC side.
I don't have the Network "adapters" in the list of network adapters on the Mac side, therefore I cannot share the connection.

 

Most of the time (actually, it should always!) just one adapter in the VM - just "Shared Networking" - should provide correct networking on Windows side,

please start the /Application/Utilities/Terminal and post here the output of the command "ifconfig -a" (without quotes).

Also, please click menu "Help"->"Report a Problem" and send a problem report. Then post here its number

The error I get says: "The network adapter does not exist"
"There is no network adapter on your Mac for 'Parallels Shared Network adapter' virtual network. The network adapter 1 will be disconnected."

I would like this working before the weekend.

I've just got time to look to the problem report.. it is turned out that version of Parallels Desktop on your machine is too old - 4.0.3522.205912, you should really upgrade to the latest. So far it is 3846

 

I am using the most current version and I am experiencing the same problem. When I try to use Shared Networking I get the following message:

The network adapter does not exist.

There is no network adapter on your Mac for the "Parallels Shared Networking Adapter" virtual network. The network adapter 0 will be disconnected.

I have uninstalled and re-installed several times as well as re-installing Parallels Tools. Nothing works.

You are the second person who have met this problem. The previous one was reported about 6 monthes ago..

I am having the same problem with a brand new MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and Parallels 4 (I would have waited to buy Parallels 5 but did not know it was coming out so soon). For the initial installation from the CD, I let it try to download the latest version, but it got hung and could never complete the download, so I installed the version on the CD and activated it. I immediately began seeing the "network adapter 0 will be disconnected" error that DarrylJ posted earlier.

In experimenting with trying to fix this error, I accidentally deleted the Parallels host adapter from my network connections. Eventually I figured out that was a huge mistake and decided to reinstall Parallels. I tried to Uninstall by clicking the link on the CD startup screen, but it gave me an error and said Parallels was not installed (which was obviously false). Attempting to get rid of the first installation, I dragged and dropped the Parallels stuff from the Applications folder in the Trash.

I then installed Parallels from the CD again and then went to Help -> Check for Updates. This found an update for 4.0.3846, but it was listed two times which I suspect is due to the fact that I could not really uninstall the first installation of Parallels. I unchecked one of the duplicate boxes and was able to successfully download and install 3846, which upgraded my second installation (I think -- the first installation is still in the Trash).

I now see two Parallels Adapters in my Network list, and they both have green lights beside them. Their statuses are:

Parallels Shared Networking Adapter is currently active and has the IP address 10.211.55.2.
Parallels Host-Only Networking Adapter is currently active and has the IP address 10.37.129.2.

However, in my Windows XP VM, I still cannot access the internet. The Network Adapter 1 says it is connected, but it's not working.

First, I am worried about the internet not working on the Windows side. But I am also concerned about the fact that I was not able to uninstall my first installation of Parallels 4. How can I clean up anything leftover from the first installation that could confuse either Parallels or Mac? Do I need to reformat/reinstall Mac and start over before I get any further along in setting this new computer?

I would greatly appreciate any and all help with these issues.

I have the same issue: upgraded to Snow Leopard running Parallels 4 and now cannot activate shared networking in the VM.

 

Btw, it is ok. There is a button "Restore Defaults" in the menu Parallels Desktop -> Preferences -> Networking that fixes this. Also, reboot fixes this and also there are only few not very important things occur if Parallels adapter is deleted from network connections

It is not very good, but it is ok also in most cases

It's ok, this issue doesn't worth Mac reinstall. Also, according to the report all seems to be ok with Parallels Desktop installation

Thank you so much for your help. Once I did "Restore Defaults" from the Parallels Networking Preferences, the internet now works.

One more question for you: How do I activate Parallels Internet Security Powered by Kaspersky? I clicked Activate Trial, but the expiration date it gave me is 12/9/09. I thought a year of security was included?

I really don't know.. afaik there should be Parallels Internet Security 2009, but unsure on whether it is available within default installation package. It could be that it must be downloaded separately. May be it is worth to ask in separate forum thread.

I've been trying to run Parallels 4.0 with Windows 7 and I keep running in the same kind of problem with the following error message: "Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver."

I did change the config in "Sharing Internet" to network to "Share your connection from: Ethernet To Computers using: Ethernet Adaptor (en2)" to no avail after restarting many many times both the iMac and Parallels.

I'm using a new iMac with 10.6.2 and Parallels 4.0.

It would be a great idea for the folks at Parallels if a solution exists to post it online instead of sending it solely to individuals encountering the same difficulties.
