Hello, It seems like I've tried every possible configuration for "network adapter" to get the internet to work in Parallels 4.0 with Windows XP and Vista VMs on my MacBook Pro. It used to work fine all the time, then stopped, and I stopped using Parallels all together. Now, I'd like to use it again but I still can't get online. I have tried shared, I had the Bridged Networking default adapter working for a minute today, and then also tried the "host only" option along with setting up the sharing in the Apple system preferences > sharing. Can anyone by chance list off a step by step guide to setting this up to work consistently for both Windows XP and Vista? It seems like there must be things I need to do on the Mac side, on the VM side, and on the Parallels settings, but I can't seem to dial it in. thanks in advance, c
Hello Clark, Please follow the steps below in regards to the issue: 1. Please uninstall Parallels using the latest 3846 build. http://www.parallels.com/download/desktop/ But remember that you need to uninstall both application and application settings while uninstalling Parallels Desktop application. 2. Then install Parallels desktop build 3846. After installing you will be prompted to create a new virtual machine. Cancel that page and go to File -> Open and choose the appropriate .pvm file in Documents/Parallels. Also, install Parallels Tools. Now, please check if this settings will work: 1. Go to Devices -> Network Adapter 1. 2. Choose bridged networking. 3. Then choose the default adapter, or the adapter name that has been listed there. http://kb.parallels.com/en/5557 http://kb.parallels.com/en/5664
I had everything working fine on Mac OS 10.5.8 until I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now the network connection via Parallels 4.0 Build 3846 is about 1/100th the normal speed. So slow things time out all the time and I cannot get a good connection. Macbook. Either wireless or ethernet. No difference. Please help. Is there an alternate config I need on Windows side (I'm no window guy)..
Are you running 64bit or 32bit kernel? If you are unsure, please start /Application/Utilities/Terminal and execute the command "uname -a" (without quotes) and post here the output. In case you are running 32bit, please try the solution in http://forum.parallels.com/showpost.php?p=377173&postcount=16 (actually, it is safe to execute even in 64bit)
Terminal Response When I enter uname -a it doesn't say if it is 32 or 64 bit It says10.0.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.0.0 and then the date and time
32 or 64 bit Looking further by going to More info about this Mac, I get "64 bit Kernel and extensions, No I assume this means I'm in 32 bit mode? B
Still no internet at speed Ok Elric So I downloaded the patch and went to terminal but maybe I did something wrong. I placed the patch in my home directory, not root .. Correct (ie in the folder with the little house) I type each line of the command and hit return after each. I got an ask permission only after the middle line but there was no other confirmation Did I do something wrong? Please help. Would be nice if you just fixed the Parallels and issued an update...sigh. Frustrated Mac user needing virus protection from the window world
Update I place the patch in both the home and the root directory. I redid the terminal commands, this time it seemed to work and I'm now downloading ok on the Windows side for now.. thanks for the help.. Now I can wait as my Kapersky virus software you thankfully provide will update itself. Then I can update the other free virus protection.. I do LUV Windows
I spoke too soon Ok so after a successful session downloading most of the Kapersky files, it asked for a reboot. Now again the internet isn't working.. (I checked by trying to go to Google in IE) no such luck You really need to address this issue in Snow Leopard and your software.. PleAse Bob
Btw, please try to disable Kaspersky just for investigation. These kind of problems likely caused by too stricted Firewall settings
Kapersky indeed Yes indeed Kapersky was the culprit. I got there on my own before reading your post so I would have gotten there with your help I think there should be a warning message that somehow upgrading to Snow Leopard makes Kapersky not function correctly...as a caution...as it worked fine before in 10.5.8 Leopard Bob PS thanks
Same issue When I first installed Parallels 4.o on my Sno Leaopard machine, it worked fine.....for 2 days. Then, I got the same issue the others are having. I'm also getting the following pop up error: "Unable to use Network Adapter 1" What is the solution. I've spent 4 hours today at the Apple store erasing and re-installing, but I get the same results. Please help....I have to be able to use Internet Explorer on this computer!
Is there a solution? When I originally installed Parallels 4.0 on my new MB Pro with Snow Leopard....everything worked fine. But, a couple days later....I can't get online in my VM - XP Pro. It says: Unable To Use Network Adapter 1 WTF?!!! I didn't touch anything.....what happened and how can I fix it? I have to have access to the internet in my VM......without it, it's worthless. Please, can someone provide a solution? I have Build 4.03844 but I can't even upgrade to 46 because it says I have the "latest version....no updates available". Help!
Ya Kevin, I'm having the same problem too. I can't seem to get internet explorer to work on my macbook pro and I have windows xp sp3 installed on it. I can't get any wireless connection to work on it. I was able to do it using boot camp but I would really like to get the internet working on the windows side using parallels. I'm going to keep searching the forums and see if I can find an answer but it'd be great if someone can post a solution here in the mean time.
