I have an Apple TV and I'm trying to get the iTunes running on my Windows Parallel image to see the Apple TV and sync with it. For some reason the Apple TV never appears in iTunes. Although the Mac can see it fine. Is there something I have done wrong with the network settings? That is, is it possible the Windows machine can only see the Mac that's hosting it and share the Mac's internet access, and can't see anything else? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.
Try to set Windows VM to Bridged Ethernet mode, also make sure that antivirus and/or firewall doesn't block connection (try to disable temporary)
When I use "shared networking", my Parallel Windows cannot see the internet at all. When I use "bridged networking", my Parallel Windows can see the internet, but cannot see the Apple TV (at least, iTunes cannot see the Apple TV). I've tried it with the Windows firewall off and it's the same. By the way, my iMac and my Apple TV are both accessing the internet wirelesly through my AirPort Extreme Base Station. Any other ideas? I'd really like to get this working.
what is ifconfig - a in Mac OS in Terminal and ipconfig /all in Windows when VM is in Shared Networking mode
Here's the info you requested -- any ideas? step 1 in Terminal from Mac OS sudo killall -HUP pvsnatd Thanks. I did the command (when asked for password, I just hit return, right?). then ifconfig -a ... 169.254.x.x should be gone, also you can try in System Preferences - Network - set Parallels Interfaces to Off then back to DHCP Did the ifconfig and it's looks like it's still there (below). I tried setting the Parallels interfaces in Network to Off then back to DHCP, but ifconfig still contains the following; I don't use any Symantec or McAffey software. Any other ideas what could cause this, or how to make it go away? en3: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::210:32ff:fe54:7698%en3 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x7 inet 169.254.182.109 netmask 0xffff0000 broadcast 169.254.255.255 ether 00:10:32:54:76:98 media: autoselect status: active supported media: autoselect en2: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::201:23ff:fe45:6789%en2 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x8 inet 169.254.182.109 netmask 0xffff0000 broadcast 169.254.255.255 ether 00:01:23:45:67:89 media: autoselect status: active supported media: autoselect
Hi John, thanks for trying. There's no Symantec or McAffey software on my Mac (unless something comes with Leopard that I don't know about?). All the Network settings are basic stuff, never did any customizations. I've been doing some experimenting. I can ping the Apple TV box from Windows using its IP address so it appears Windows can actually see the Apple TV on the network. I can also ping my iMac using its IP address or its name from Windows (don't know what the Apple TV's network name would be, so I couldn't try that). So since everything appears to be on the same network, I still wonder why the Apple TV isn't appearing in iTunes on Windows. Also, I have the Windows firewall turned off. (And iTunes on Mac can see the Apple TV just fine.) My Windows VM *should* just look like another PC on the network to the Apple TV, right? So I wonder what's preventing Apple TV from showing itself in the Windows iTunes devices list. Any more ideas?
No. Just a basic Mac Leopard installation. I have MS Office installed ... Parallels Desktop, Toast, ... Call Of Duty: UO ... not much else.
Problem also can be caused by incorrectly configured Network locations. Try to delete all Location except Automatic and restart Mac OS, than turn off Parallels interfaces in System Preferences Network and on back by DHCP
Hi again -- I really do appreciate your effort on this -- Under Network, there's a Location combobox and the only item in the list is "Automatic". When Automatic is selected, I have the following in the list: (green) AirPort, connected (green) Parallels Host-Guest, connected (green) Paralles NAT, connected (red) Bluetooth, not connected (red) Ethernet, not connected (red) FireWire, not connected I'm guessing I don't have anything to delete then, correct?
well, Apple TV does not show up in iTunes used in Parallels VM .... checked firewall and turned it off. It shows up in iTunes for MAC. What other details are required?
